Elessaria grew up as the younger daughter of the steward of a minor lord’s castle. She initally had nothing more to look forward to than a fairly comfortable life of servitude until she showed a decent aptitude for hunting with a bow. As her older sister was showing herself to be a fine up-and-coming steward, Elessaria was allowed to hunt to provide food for the kitchens.
On a two-day hunting expedition, Elessaria’s team was set upon by a wandering Goblin tribe. They captured the elves and enslaved them. Elessaria’s decent skills at dressing and cooking meat, as well as the ease with which she picked up the Goblin language (and the greater ease with which she picked up telling dirty jokes in it) got her along just fine, most of the time.
Elessaria eventually escaped her really very uneventful 20-odd years as a Goblin slave without any hard feelings, and fell in with various travellers, sell-swords, bards and wandering wizards. She learned Common and Draconian on her travels, and spent 15 years or so hanging around with a Spellthief, who took a shine to her and taught her a few things.
While travelling in the vicinity of Uungaar, Elessaria learned of the Academy of Heroes, and feeling as thought she’d like to formalise some of her patchy training and hone some of her skills, she set out to join. Enrolling as a Spellthief, she was able to build on her base of practical knowledge and whilst not top of her class, she has always performed well enough in classes and assessments, when she isn’t performing some sort of punishment task for backchatting her teachers or performing elaborate pranks on her classmates.
